Project Controller

Put your expertise to work on a resource that matters. Turn complex water challenges into practical, lasting solutions.

Project Controller

Summary

The Project Controller is responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling project performance, ensuring that projects are delivered within scope, budget, and schedule. The role provides financial, scheduling, reporting, and risk management support to project teams and management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer Zebra: project setup, user access and permissions, data integrity checks, reporting templates and dashboards
  • Own the document/drawing register: intake, revision control, distribution and status
  • Run the weekly status-report cadence across all live projects
  • Spot-check a sample of live projects on a fixed weekly cycle — confirming the drawing revision in use on site matches the register, and that task status in Zebra reflects what the site team would report directly — catching drift before it causes a costly error, not only after a client or PM flags one
  • Coordinate with IT Support (Digital & Technology, ORG-007) on platform issues, without ceding ownership of the project data itself
  • Flag document or data gaps to the Head of Project Delivery before they become schedule or client-facing problems

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain project schedules and timelines.
  • Monitor project progress against approved plans.
  • Track milestones and deliverables and identify schedule deviations.
  • Coordinate project updates with stakeholders and project managers.

Cost Control & Financial Management

  • Monitor project budgets and expenditure.
  • Track project costs, forecasts, and cash flow requirements.
  • Prepare cost reports and variance analyses.
  • Ensure project costs are accurately allocated and captured.

Reporting & Performance Monitoring

  • Produce weekly and monthly project performance reports.
  • Analyse project data and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Monitor project KPIs relating to cost, schedule, quality, and resources.
  • Maintain project dashboards and management reports.

Risk & Change Management

  • Track project risks and mitigation actions.
  • Monitor scope changes and assess their impact on cost and schedule.
  • Maintain project risk and change registers.
  • Support project governance and compliance requirements.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Facilitate project meetings and ensure actions are followed up.
  • Support communication of project performance and progress.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain project documentation and records.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Support audits and project reviews.
  • Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Project Management, Engineering, Finance, Quantity Surveying, Commerce, or a related field.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in project control, project administration, project planning, or cost control.
  • Experience within engineering, construction, mining, utilities, or infrastructure projects is advantageous.
  • Experience using project management software and reporting tools.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar scheduling software.
  • Cost control and budgeting principles.
  • Project reporting and data analysis.
  • ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) advantageous.

Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong numerical and financial acumen.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Document register accuracy (register matches latest issued revision)
  • Active projects with a status report
  • Zebra data completeness (required fields populated per project)
  • Register/reporting errors escalated by clients or PMs
